Is a rabbi a Jewish priest?

No. Rabbi means teacher or master. Traditionally, a rabbi was a specialist of Jewish learning, but he had no spiritual authority over his community. In predominantly Christian societies such as the US and throughout Europe, rabbis now assume the role of other clerics, combining pastoral and social work aspects with religious leadership.
