Is the God of the Old Testament the same God as the God of the New Testament?

Jews hear the following: “The God of the Old Testament is a God of wrath while the God of the New Testament is a God of love,”  a common Christian misconception that sees Christians as the new Israel. To many, included the notion that the Christian God is superior to the Jewish God.

However, the New Testament leaves no doubt that the God addressed here is the same as the God of the Hebrew Bible. Early Christian communities saw themselves as part of the Jewish people. Their text of reference was the Hebrew Bible, and this included the ideas they had about God.
