Today, our RELG 110 class began to look at Buddhism. This class offers a whirlwind tour of the world’s religions–indigenous, Hinduism, Buddhism, Zoroastrianism, Judaism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism, Atheism, and probably Neo-Paganism and some other more recent ones such as Rastafarians–followed by discussions of some major topics facing these traditions. The choice of these topics is up to the students and I can’t wait to see what they will choose.
We opened today’s class with Mr. Happiness, a rapping monk from Japan and spoke about the function (but less the limits) of hybridity:
